The Antiwork Fair

This is an exercise against the Corporate Takeover of Our Bodies and Brains!
In the current phase of late capitalism, we are experiencing crucial contractions in the way labor is framed. Every living experience can be commodified, and our source of imagination is distorted to inevitably become a source of income.
A work fair, the search for work, and opportunities for our survival keep us on constant loops of extraction. A work fair is an act of cruelty where deep anxieties come afloat, of a silent competition in a loud uproar of internalized questions such as, am I enough?
This is an invitation for a protest, an act of voicing through our bodies, a form of listening with physical and discursive exercises in unproductivity and slowing down where we root in our environment.
This platform invites workers and non-workers from all fields. Collective walking and listening are lifelong practices imbuing a visceral, embodied knowledge of healing in this ever-increasing chaos and confusion of today’s world.
1. Movement
WHEN PEOPLE JOIN TOGETHER,
THEIR POWER IS MULTIPLIED
MOVEMENT BREAKS NEW GROEND
HAMMERING MIGHT INTO THE EARTH
A GLANCE,
CATCHING
SIGHT OF A WORLD WE DO NOT
HAVE OWNERSHIP
THE BODIES ARE IN MOTION
HAMMERING MIGHT INTO THE EARTH
HAMMERING MIGHT INTO THE EARTH
2. Recovery, by becoming
HEALING NOW LOOKS LIKE A STATE OF RECLAMATION
WE EMBED OUR STORIES IN THE LANDSCAPE, GRIEF, AND ALL OTHER CYCLES OF RELEASE /UNLEARNING.
MOVEMENT BREAKS NEW GROEND
HAMMERING MIGHT INTO THE EARTH
HEALING AS AN EXCHANGE.
THE
COST FOR PEACE
OF MIND IS LOOKING OUR
SHADOWS IN THE EYE

3. Inhabit
BIND A SOUND THAT REMINDS YOU
OF A DREAM
WALK. PLAY. STAND.
BUT REMAIN IN YOUR OPPOSITES
NOW INTENTLY DRAW A MAP OF YOURSELF
TAKE A REST AND LISTEN TO THE PERSON AND THE OTHER SIDE
HOW DOES THEIR SOUND COMPLIMENT YOURS?
FIND A WAV TO ENHANCE. NULLIFY OR
OTHERWISE, INTERACT WITH THE SOUNDS
Sunbathing the space between my eyes
REDISTRIBUTE YOUR BODY WEIGHT.
LISTEN TO YOUR SKIN SHIFT
LISTEN FOR A HEART SOUND. (AFFECTIVE)
LITTLE BY LITTLE - FLEX, STRIP SKIN BACK, ALLOW SUBTERRANEAN ORGANS TO SOIL,
EXPOSED TO THE AIR. LISTEN WITH YOUR LUNGS
WITH THE FRESHNESS OF FLESH.
WTH Y OUR QUIVERING LIVER
LISTEN INWARD WITH YOUR JAW - EAR -
ALONG WITH BONES,
THE PLATEAU OF SKIN
HARKING FOR HACK TREMORS
FOR THAT EYEBALL PULSE.
EXTEND YOUR BIOLOGY -
SEARCH FOR A PATTERN.
WHERE DOES SOUND COME FROM?
WHERE DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE TO BE STANDING?
My Body Does Not Run on Gregorian Time
The Antiwork Fair is part of the expansive project called My Body Does Not Run on Gregorian Time, in which I explore the technoecologies of the body, meaning the changes in labor are inseparable from transformations in the material, ecological health, and affective body.
In order to bring a new understanding of ecological systems from the labor machine and its constant demands and changes in the search for ultimate productivity, and unbounded efficiency.
The body as an object of knowledge cannot, therefore, precede its enactment of these processes; it is, in fact, an actor within a broader space, and cannot be analyzed as a self-contained phenomenon. The constitution of the body as a phenomenon of social doing also finds resonance in the work of Gayatri Spivak:
“The body, like all other things, cannot be thought, as such. I do take the extreme ecological view that the body as such has no possible outline. As body it is a repetition of nature. As a text, the inside of the body (imbricated with the outside) is mysterious and unreadable except by way of thinking of the systematicity of the body, value coding of the body. It is through the significance of my body and others’ bodies that cultures become gendered, economicopolitic, selved, substantive.”
Gayatri Spivak, 2012, p. 22
